PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad – The Trinidad-based Caribbean Court of Justice (CCJ) Tuesday dismissed the appeal of two brothers against their murder convictions and reserved judgment about their appeals against their sentence.

The brothers, Orwin and Cleon Hinds, and two other men, had been charged with the murder of Clementine Fiedtkou Parris on June 30, 2011, following an arrangement where money was intended to pass from one person to another.

During their High Court trial, the four men convicted of the offense of murder were each sentenced to 81 years in prison.

They appealed the ruling, but the Court of Appeal of Guyana upheld their convictions while reducing their sentences to 50 years. Dissatisfying with the Court of Appeal’s decision, the brothers appealed to the CCJ.

But the CCJ, Guyana’s highest court, dismissed the appeal and reserved its decision on the appeals against the sentence following concerns expressed by the CCJ judges about the process resulting in the sentence’s imposition.

The five-member CCJ panel of judges headed by its President Justice Adrian Saunders said that the reasons for its decision would be delivered in due course.
