ST GEORGE’S, Grenada, CMC – The Democratic People’s Movement (DPM) is set to formalize its internal structure at its first congress on Sunday at the Grenada Trade Centre, where delegates from all 15 constituencies will gather.
The DPM is a new political party, formally launched in November 2025 by former government minister Peter David.
The meeting will see the election of a national executive, ratification of the party’s constitution, and the unveiling of its first group of candidates for the next general election.
The move comes as political activity intensifies in Grenada.
The opposition New National Party (NNP) has already named candidates in all 15 constituencies, while the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) is also expected to field a full slate.
Meanwhile, the newly formed People’s National Party (PNP), led by former senator and minister Jonathan La Crette, has entered the political arena but has yet to announce its candidates.
Grenada’s next general election is constitutionally due by 2027, though it could be called earlier.
DPM leader David described the upcoming congress as a pivotal moment for both the party and the country.
“This is not about one individual or a small group. It’s about Grenadians who believe the country needs a new approach to politics,” he said, noting that grassroots consultations have driven the party’s development.
Interim Chairman Alister Bain said the DPM is preparing to contest all constituencies, even though its full slate of candidates will not yet be revealed.
“We are ready to compete in every constituency and to form the government,” Bain said.
He added that the party’s policies have been shaped through direct citizen engagement, with a strong emphasis on youth and women in leadership roles.
The DPM said its platform will focus on practical priorities, including job creation, food security, and accessible healthcare, as it positions itself as a viable contender in the upcoming election.
