ST. GEORGE’S, Grenada, CMC—Eight weeks after he sacked Jonathan La Crette as both the youth and sports minister and a senator, Prime Minister Dickon Mitchell advised Deputy Governor General Tillman Thomas on Wednesday to appoint Seville Francis as his replacement.

However, she will serve as Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry of Youth and Sports, promising to “faithfully execute” her new role “ without fear or favor, affection or ill will.”

Thomas, a former prime minister, told the new legislator that “Parliament is a vital institution in our democratic setting, and Senator Francis, you have been called to serve at the parliamentary level.

“With your determination, I know you will make it; you have to be conscious…you have to be conscious of God, and with your determination and your application, in my view, you will make a good Senator,” he added.

A St George’s University graduate with a Bachelor of Science degree specializing in psychology and an associate degree in social work from T A Marryshow Community College, Francis will take her oath as a new senator when the Upper House meets on Friday.

The primary item for discussion on the Order paper is the EC$269 million (One EC dollar = 0.37 cents) supplementary budget.
