Jamaica’s junior golf stars prepare to compete at Caribbean Championships in Puerto Rico

KINGSTON, Jamaica, CMC – Jamaica’s top young golfers are set to compete at the 2025 Caribbean Amateur Junior Golf Championships (CAJGC), taking place from July 27 to August 1 at the prestigious Grand Reserve Golf Club in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico.

The Jamaica Golf Association (JGA) has named a talented and experienced squad ready to challenge for both individual and team honours in the highly competitive regional tournament.

The CAJGC is one of the most prestigious junior golf events in the region, bringing together the best young players from across the Caribbean.

This year, defending champions Puerto Rico enter as favourites, boasting a strong home team with elite training and international competition experience.

However, Jamaica’s tight-knit squad, a mix of seasoned competitors and rising stars, is determined to make a strong impression.

Led by National Coach and Team Manager Jonathan Newnham, a former Jamaican national player and accomplished coach, the team features standout juniors across multiple age divisions.

The Boys 18 & Under will feature Ryan Lue. At the same time, the Girls 18 & Under will see Mattea Issa, Jamaica’s National Amateur Champion, and Kingston Burke, a rising star, making her second appearance on the national junior team.

The Boys 15 & Under will feature Kemari Morris and Cameron Coe, with the girls’ equivalent featuring Mallaina Williams. Shasa Redlefsen will lead the 13 and under category with Alessandra Coe and Francesca Black in the female division.

Coach Jonathan Newnham expressed optimism about the team’s readiness for this year’s championship.

“The Caribbean Amateur Junior Golf Championships are a fantastic event that unites the best young talent in the region. Our players have trained hard, and I’m excited to see them compete with pride and determination.”
