LONDON, CMC – Veteran Bermuda international Nahki Wells broke a four-month scoring drought as Bristol City squandered a golden opportunity for total points in a 2-2 draw with Coventry City.
The 33-year-old Wells pounced on a loose ball with time ticking away in the 83rd minute to give the visitors a precious 2-1 lead at Coventry Arena on Tuesday.
However, the lead lasted only three minutes as substitute Ellis Simms grabbed the equalizer, leaving Bristol City winless since Boxing Day.
“It does feel like two points dropped, of course, after scoring at such a good time, conceding not too short after,” said Wells, who has scored only four times this season.
“So yes, [there is] a lot of disappointment in the changing room. It seems it’s becoming a recurring thing in the league lately, and we have to find ways to start winning games.”
Japan international Tatsuhiro Sakamoto put Coventry ahead with a clinical finish after the Bristol City defense failed to effectively clear Jake Bidwell’s cross.
Rob Dickie drew the visitors level on the stroke of half-time, heading in Taylor Gardner-Hickman’s cross before Wells put them in front when the ball fell to him on the edge of the box.
But Simms quickly quelled any premature excitement on Bristol City’s part when he rammed home a rebound after the ’ keeper had parried Liam Kitching’s initial shot.
City lies mid-table on 38 points, six points adrift of sixth-placed Coventry.
