LONDON, CMC – York City announced the signing of forward Tyrese Sinclair upon the expiry of his contract with fellow English National League side Rochdale.

The 23-year-old is the son of Frank Sinclair, a historic member of the Jamaica men’s national team that qualified for the 1998 World Cup under head coach Rene Simoes.

The younger Sinclair is City’s fifth summer signing (commencing from July 1), following four signings in one day this past Saturday, including Antigua & Barbuda winger Ashley Nathaniel-George.

Sinclair joins the Minstermen, as York City is known, from Rochdale, where he signed permanently two years ago. He ended last season with 11 goals after playing 34 matches across all competitions for the club.

The forward began his youth career at Blackburn Rovers before settling at Mansfield Town seven years ago, following a successful EFL trial day when he was only 17.

Sinclair scooped Player-of-the-Year at the Mansfield Academy in his first season, helping the side win the 2017-18 EFL Youth Alliance title.

Loan spells with Radcliffe and Basford United in the lower tiers of the English game followed for Sinclair between 2019 and 2020 when he first experienced senior men’s football.

Sinclair made his League 2 debut against Tranmere Rovers at the One Call Stadium in August 2020.

The attacker featured 23 times throughout 2020-21, netting his first senior goal against Newport in a 1-1 draw towards the backend of the season.

Sinclair featured 44 times for Mansfield during his spell, heading out on loan to Scunthorpe United in League 2 in his final season with the Stags, as Mansfield is known.

With Scunthorpe, he appeared 14 times in claret and blue between January and May of 2022 before Rochdale acquired him after his release from Mansfield in the summer shortly after that.

Sinclair featured 14 times in a loan switch to another National League side, Altrincham, between February and April 2023, scoring six goals across all competitions before being recalled.

Sinclair featured 70 times for Rochdale across his two-year spell, scoring 14.

York City narrowly avoided being relegated to the sixth tier of the English game when they finished 20th in the 24-team National League table on 53 points – one point above the drop zone.
