ANFIELD, England, CMC – Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw continued her impressive start to the Women’s Super League (WSL) by grabbing a brace, including a late winner, to help Manchester City edge Liverpool 2-1 in a thriller here Sunday.

The Jamaican international netted in the 58th and 92nd minute as City rallied after Olivia Smith’s goal in the 41st minute had given Liverpool the lead.

Shaw’s spectacular performance sent City to the top of the WSL and ensured they remained unbeaten in their first four games for the first time since the 2019-2020 season.

City has 10 points, just ahead of Chelsea and Manchester City on nine points, but both teams have a game in hand.

With the game seemingly headed for a draw, Shaw found the winner in the second minute of added time, firing powerfully past goalkeeper Rachael Laws and dealing a late blow to the hosts.

The 27-year-old Shaw described the victory as “ugly” but said the three points were vital for last year’s runners-up.

“Coming into this game, we knew it would be tough. Sometimes an ugly win is just as important for the three points – we must keep going,” Shaw told Sky Sports.

“We know the type of team Liverpool are. They are straightforward, and they like to put the balls in behind.

“We knew that if we managed to focus on what we were capable of doing, we were going to get goals,” she added.

The win capped off an outstanding week for City, who also beat Barcelona 2-0 in their Champions League encounter on Wednesday.
