HARTFORD, Connecticut, CMC – Hartford Athletic have signed their second Jamaica international from Colorado Springs Switchbacks this week after announcing the arrival of striker Romario Williams.

Just hours after acquiring Deshane Beckford from the western United States franchise, Hartford said Thursday it had also secured the services of the 29-year-old Williams “pending league and federation approval.”

Williams, who hails from the small coastal town of Portmore in southeastern Jamaica, enjoyed a prolific United Soccer League championship season with the Switchbacks last term, banging in a season-best 15 goals in 30 appearances.

He added three assists, created 23 chances, and registered 45 shots – the latter only second to countryman Beckford.

Williams will bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to Hartford, having played in Egypt and Kuwait and had spells in Major League Soccer.

He has racked up 56 career goals in 123 regular season outings, and his strike rate of a goal every 140.5 minutes has placed him third in the league’s history.

Williams will boost a Hartford squad that struggled last season to finish at the bottom of the Eastern Conference with just four wins in 34 games.

Switchbacks, meanwhile, reached the conference quarterfinals before bowing out to San Antonio FC.

Williams only joined Switchbacks a year ago after spending a single season at New Mexico United.

The USL Championship season kicks off on March 9.
