LONDON, CMC – Grenada international Kairo Mitchell and St Lucia international Dominic Poleon were on target in Tuesday’s English National League championship.
Mitchell completed the scoring when Rochdale cruised to a convincing 3-0 win against Altrincham, and Poleon scored, but the winless run of Ebbsfleet extended to eight matches with their 1-1 draw with Maidenhead.
AT CROWN OIL ARENA: A brace from Ryan East and a 10th goal of the season for Mitchell ensured a commanding victory and back-to-back home wins for Rochdale.
With his back to the Altrincham goal, Mitchell trapped a curling ball that sailed into the area, spun, and smashed home a left-footed effort in the 71st minute to sign off the win for Rochdale.
Earlier, ninth-placed Rochdale took the lead after 15 minutes when East drilled a low shot home in the first half after team-mate Harvey Gilmour won back a loose ball in the area and laid it on.
East made it four goals in four matches when he latched onto a fine cutback from Cameron John on the left and ensured Altrincham goalie Ethan Ross had no chance of stopping him with a rasping strike into the top right corner in the 63rd minute.
AT KUFLINK STADIUM: Poleon had several chances to display his strong running against the Maidenhead back line, and he released Ben Chapman to latch on to a pass midway through the first half, but despite his fall in the box and protests from Fleet players around him, the goal-kick was given.
The score-line remained 0-0 at half-time before Poleon made the breakthrough on the hour mark, after Like O’Neill sent a ball from the right in behind the covering defender, and St Lucian latched on to it before driving into the area and lashing home for his ninth goal of the season.
The lead was short-lived, and Maidenhead responded six minutes later with the equalizer coming from a free kick in a central area.
A chance from Sam Barratt was deflected off the defensive wall, and Reece Smith took a touch before picking out the top right-hand corner with a well-executed shot from inside the area to make things all square.
