LONDON, CMC – A knee injury may keep Exeter City winger Demetri Mitchell out of the rest of the English League 1 season.
The 26-year-old, who indicated last year that he hoped to represent Jamaica, where his grandparents were born, damaged an anterior cruciate ligament when his side endured a 3-2 loss in the fourth round of the English League Cup against Middlesbrough this past Tuesday.
He was forced off against Boro after 34 minutes after what appeared to be a harmless collision with an opponent.
Mitchell, a contemporary of Manchester United and England striker Marcus Rashford, who has been in impressive form this season, said on social media that he would be out for six and nine months.
“We’ll be back, don’t worry,” he added on X, formerly Twitter.
Mitchell joined Exeter in January after spells in Scotland and other clubs in England, and he started to thrive at St James Park under manager Gary Caldwell, who has known him since he was a young player.
He has scored five times in 33 appearances for the club, including a late winner before being sent off against Premier League side Luton Town in the third round of the League Cup last month.
