PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad, CMC – Mexico thrashed Barbados 4-1 in their top-of-the-table clash in the 2026 CONCACAF Under-17 World Cup Qualifiers to almost all but secure their spot at the World Cup.
Playing at the Hasely Crawford Stadium in their crucial Group A match on Tuesday, El Tricolor took control of the match by scoring three goals in the opening 10 minutes.
Uziel Vargas got on the board in the third minute with a neat finish from the middle of the box, and three minutes later, Noé Mota finished off a cross to make it 2-0.
Mexico made it 3-0 one minute later when Adán Sanchez pounced on a rebound and blasted it home.
Barbados was gifted a goal when Mexico’s goalkeeper Marcelo Ávalos put the ball in the back of his net in the 47th minute.
However, Mexico put the finishing touches on a dominant performance when Luis Trujillo unleashed a laser from distance in the 67th minute.
Meanwhile, Trinidad and Tobago blanked Sint Maarten 8-0 to leave themselves with a slim chance of qualifying.
The win moved them to second place in the group on six points, the same as Barbados but with a superior goal difference, with their final match against Mexico on Thursday.
T&T will need to defeat Mexico by a large margin to claim the top spot in the group, as only the winner qualifies for the World Cup.
