LONDON, CMC – St Lucia international Dominic Poleon has urged his Ebbsfleet United teammates to remain grounded despite wins in their last two outings as they continue their battle to avoid relegation from the National League.

The 30-year-old Poleon scored in the last of those two on Tuesday in a 1-0 triumph over Woking at home at Stonebridge Road to help Ebbsfleet pull away from the drop zone.

However, the Southeast England outfit remains dangerously placed, just once position above the bottom four but level on points with Dorking Wanderers, who occupy the final relegation spot.

“We’re all fully aware of the position we’re in. We need to keep our feet firmly on the ground – nothing’s achieved yet,” Polen warned in the wake of Tuesday’s win.

“We’ve just got to keep chipping away at the games, and on days like this, the hard work we’ve been putting in has paid off.”

He continued: “When you’re getting results, it’s only natural there’s going to be a feel-good factor, but we need to get carried away with these picking up points and the outside noise.

“We need to keep our feet firmly on the ground. We’ve got to ensure we’re focused and locked in for the upcoming games because, as I’ve said, more is needed.

Ebbsfleet is moving in the right direction with just one defeat in their last six outings but are only six points away from bottom-dwellers Oxford City.

In light of this, Tuesday’s win proved critical, Poleon’s clinical 17th-minute strike settling the affair against the relegation-threatened Woking.

“It was a good ball. I’m just happy I put it away this time,” Poleon said of the strike.

“In the last couple of games, I’ve been unlucky, and sometimes, as a striker, you can get down about it – not scoring.

“But I’ve just got to keep going, and when chances fall like that for me, make sure I take them. I’m delighted we’ve got one today, kept a clean sheet, and got three points.”

He continued: “We needed it. It’s nice to get a win from two decent results finally.

You can see that [confidence] in our playing. There’s that belief back and that togetherness, and just long may it continue.

“We need to get the points on the board to get ourselves out of the position we’re in, and just delighted today that one of them went in.”

Ebbsfleet faces Dorking away at the Meadowbank on the weekend, with Poleon aware another three points will be critical.

“We know Dorking well. We’ve got a history with Dorking, but for us, we’re on our own journey, and like I’ve said, we look forward to the next game,” he said.

“We look forward to playing well as we’ve done. Hopefully, we’ll keep a clean sheet and get the three points.”
