FOOTBALL-JAMAICA-Lowe thrilled to get off the mark before home fans
LONDON, CMC – Reggae Boy Jamal Lowe said opening his account in his second spell at Swansea City was made all the more remarkable because the goal came before the home fans at Swansea.com Stadium.

LONDON, CMC – Reggae Boy Jamal Lowe said opening his account in his second spell at Swansea City was made all the more remarkable because the goal came before the home fans at Swansea.com Stadium.

The Swans blanked Sheffield Wednesday 3-0 on Saturday, with the 29-year-old Lowe getting them on their way with a 28th-minute penalty before Jerry Yates (64th) and Charlie Patino (67th) added second-half strikes to complete the comfortable win.

Lowe, capped four times by Jamaica, returned to the Welsh club on loan earlier this month after a previous spell there two years ago. “It feels perfect,” Lowe said afterward.

“Firstly, it’s a win for the team, which we’ve all wanted and worked hard for.

“We were unlucky not to get one in midweek at QPR, but we’ve got one now with an excellent performance, and I’m pleased with the goal.

“It was lovely [to score] and do it at home. Like I said before, I haven’t played in front of the fans here often, so it was nice to hear the full stadium singing.”

The victory was Swansea’s first of the season after suffering three defeats in their last four outings in the Championship.

They currently reside in the bottom three on six points, only a point above fellow stragglers Middlesbrough and Rotherham.

Lowe said using Saturday’s result to kickstart their season was essential.

“We worked hard, we had two injuries, but everyone who started worked hard, everyone who came on worked hard, and that will probably show in the statistics and how well we kept the ball,” Lowe said.

“If we keep doing that, we’re going to be successful. That has to be the benchmark now with how we controlled the ball and the game.

“They had a five-10-minute spell, but, to be fair, to all the defenders, they were putting their bodies on the line and making important clearances, so for us to score two quick goals just kills the game.”

He continued: “It’s massive that we back this up now, you can’t just have this in dribs and drabs. We’ll have another hard week of training and go again.

“That’s what we all want, that’s what the fans want, and that’s what we work so hard for, so hopefully this is the start of a nice run for us.”
