LONDON, CMC – Surinamese striker Cedric Main’s first-half goal proved pivotal as English sixth-tier National League North strugglers Blyth Spartans edged Southport 1-0 at Croft Park on Tuesday night.

Curtis Round’s defense-splitting pass found Troy Chiabi, whose low 25-year-old Main tapped in the cross on 33 minutes.

The goal sealed a crucial three points for bottom-but-one Blyth, who recorded their first league win since November, ahead of a vital home clash against Buxton on Saturday.

“We’re going into Saturday’s game in great spirits,” said Blyth boss Graham Fenton.

Buxton lies 20th in the table, three places and three points above Blyth but from a game more.

Main, who has featured for several junior clubs in the Netherlands – including FC Groningen – and also turned out for Spanish sides CF La Nucía and Almagro CF, is yet to make his international debut.

Meanwhile, 23-year-old Jordan Greenidge, whose brother Reiss plays for Guyana and Maidstone United, bagged a brace for Tonbridge Angels in their 4-0 win over Dover Athletic at Longmead Stadium in National League South.

Greenidge, whose team sits in 10th place in the table, struck in the 16th and 60th minutes.
