LONDON, Former Reggae Boy Darren Byfield, who won six caps for Jamaica in 2003, has been fined £500 (US$609) by English authorities for “improper behavior” during a League Two match earlier this month.

The 46-year-old Byfield and Graham Coughlan, fined £500 by the English Football Association (FA), were both sent off during Newport County’s 2-2 draw with Crawley Town.

Newport boss Coughlan and Byfield, who was Crawley’s interim manager, were dismissed in added time.

The FA said, “both managers admitted that their behavior… was improper”.

Crawley has since named Scott Lindsey as their third permanent boss this season.

During his playing career, Byfield featured for many clubs, including Aston Villa and Sunderland Millwall, and was part of the Reggae Boyz squad for the 2003 CONCACAF Gold Cup.

He subsequently began his club management career in 2016.

Meanwhile, Sutton United captain Craig Eastmond, of Jamaican descent, is one of five players to have extended their contracts at the League Two club until the summer of 2024.

Former Arsenal and Colchester midfielder Eastmond, 32, has been with Sutton since September 2015. He has been part of the side as they have risen from the sixth-tier National League South to the English Football League.

“Craig has been outstanding as a captain and a leader during my time at Sutton United, and I’m sure he has many more years to come pulling on the amber shirt,” manager Matt Gray told the club website.
