Head coach Lorne Donaldson Busby expresses confidence in leading the Jamaica Reggae Girlz to qualification for the 2027 FIFA Women's World Cup.

KINGSTON, Jamaica, CMC – Head coach of Jamaica’s Reggae Girlz, Hubert Busby, is optimistic about his side’s chances of qualifying for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup. Busby, who was given a one-year extension by the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) last month, on Monday named his squad for the upcoming CONCACAF Women’s Qualifiers match against hosts Nicaragua on March 2.

Jamaica opened their campaign last November with an 18-0 drubbing of Dominica and currently lie second in Group B, three points behind Nicaragua, who are on six points from two matches.

The Reggae Girlz need to top their group to advance to the Championships, where eight teams will qualify for the 2027 World Cup, and three will qualify for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.

Busby said even though the extension was only for one year, he was looking forward to helping the Reggae Girlz qualify for their third successive World Cup.

“It’s just really an extension through to 2026, and obviously the idea is to continue through. We’re looking positively ahead; that’s why I’m here today, so there really weren’t a lot of things to discuss. It was just making sure that we’re all on the same page and continuing to move forward, and that’s what it is.

“It’s just kind of a continuation of where we were before heading into another year, and then obviously, we’ll reevaluate after this year, and then if things go well, we’ll obviously continue to push on, and obviously that takes us into the World Cup as well,” Busby said.

“So it was just a matter of us sitting down and making sure we’re on the same page with a couple of things, but we’re all unified and pulling in the same direction and we all want the same things to occur and it’s now about us coming together from the federation, players, staff, you know, the public getting behind this group to ensure that we qualify for a third straight World Cup and then consequently qualify for the 2028 Olympics as well.”
