LONDON, CMC – Cameron Archer and Tyrick Mitchell, players with Jamaican connections, both netted as their respective sides earned victories in the Premier League on Saturday.

The 21-year-old Archer, who qualifies to represent the Reggae Boys through his mother, scored in the 72nd minute to help rock-bottom Sheffield United to their first-season victory with a 2-1 result against Wolves.
Tyrick Mitchell.

Mitchell, meanwhile, a 24-year-old defender who is also of Jamaica descent, was on target for Crystal Palace in the 2-0 win over Premier League strugglers Burnley.

Palace lies tenth on 15 points, while Sheffield, who gained automatic promotion to the top flight after finishing second in the Championship last season, now have four points after already losing nine times.

Following a goalless first half at Bramall Lane in the north, Archer put his side ahead with an exceptional solo effort to register his second goal of the season and first in two months.

There were flutters for Sheffield when Frenchman Jean-Ricner Bellegarde curled in an 89th-minute equalizer, but Oliver Norwood’s stoppage-time penalty gave the hosts the precious points.

Archer joined Sheffield in August in a four-year deal worth 18 million pounds sterling.

At Turf Moor in the north-west, Mitchell put the finishing touches on Palace’s fourth campaign win, which moved them into tenth spot.

The visitors led at the break through Jeffrey Schlupp’s 22nd-minute strike after Jordan Ayew set up the Ghanaian international.

And they had to wait until stoppage time to double their lead through Mitchell, who converted after being played in by substitute Eberechi Eze to notch his first of the season.

Speculation over Mitchell’s international future has been rampant recently after the left-back found himself snubbed by England.

He played two games last year against Switzerland and the Ivory Coast but has been overlooked by Gareth Southgate ever since.
