
SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic, CMC – The government of the Dominican Republic has declared Thursday as a day of national mourning out of respect for the people who died in Monday’s fiery explosion in San Cristóbal.
President Luis Abinader said all flags must be flown at half mast in military compounds and public buildings throughout the country.
At least 27 people have been killed due to the explosion, while more than 30 people are still in hospital nursing injuries ranging from broken bones to severe burns.
Monday’s fire and explosion occurred at a bakery in the city just west of here. Investigations are ongoing.
