ROSEAU-Dominica, CMC – The government is refuting social media claims that it has sold the Botanical Gardens to foreign investors to develop a golf course.

In a statement issued late last week, the government said the “proposed plans for the development of the Botanic Gardens being shared via social media were generated four years ago and were not considered or approved by the Government of Dominica.”

The Dominica Botanical Gardens, formerly a sugar plantation, is said to be among the oldest in the region and was started in 1890. Its first curator was Charles Murray of the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh, United Kingdom.
