VATICAN CITY, CMC – Pope Leo XIV has held talks with Dominica’s Prime Minister, Roosevelt Skerrit, on current regional and national socio-political issues, according to a statement issued by the Holy See Press Office.

It said that the Pontiff met with Skerrit, “who subsequently met with His Eminence Cardinal Pietro Parolin, Secretary of State, accompanied by Archbishop Paul R. Gallagher, Secretary for Relations with States and International Organizations.

“During the cordial talks at the Secretariat of State, the good relations between the Holy See and Dominica were noted. Attention was then given to the valuable contributions that the Church makes to the country, especially in the fields of social assistance and education.

“The conversation also touched upon some current regional and national socio-political issues, such as societal challenges and the consequences of climate change, including the renewal of the mutual commitment to promote cooperation for the good of the Dominican people,” the statement said.

Skerrit, who is accompanied by his wife, Melissa Poponne-Skerrit, the Minister for Housing and Urban Development, is ending a four-day visit to Italy on Friday, where he met with business leaders to explore opportunities for economic partnership, sustainable development cooperation, and cultural exchange.
