LONDON, CMC – Unbeaten Namibia booked their place in next year’s Twenty20 World Cup in the Caribbean and North America when they stormed to their fifth straight win with a 58-run verdict over Tanzania.

Playing in the African Qualifiers in the Namibian capital of Windhoek, Jonathan Smit scored 40 from 25 deliveries as Namibia racked up 157 for six off their 20 overs on Tuesday.

Michael van Lingen struck 30 from 33 balls, posting 37 for the first wicket with Niko Davin, who belted a 17-ball 25, before adding a further 40 for the second wicket with Gerhard Erasmus (21).

In reply, Amal Rajeevan top-scored with 41 not out from 45 deliveries, but Tanzania could only manage 99 for six.

The victory meant Namibia had secured their T20 World Cup spot with a game to spare, their final outing against Nigeria on Thursday.

For Namibia, dubbed “the Eagles,” the qualification marks their third straight, having also cut the 2021 edition in the United Arab Emirates and last year’s edition in Australia.

On Wednesday, Uganda and Kenya will hope to clinch the last remaining spot for the continent when they clash in a do-or-die contest. Both teams lie second on six points.

The T20 World Cup will be staged from June 4-30, 2024, with 20 teams battling across four groups.

Seven Caribbean countries – Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, Dominica, Guyana, St Lucia, St Vincent and the Grenadines, and Trinidad and Tobago – were recently selected to host matches.

Dallas, Fort Lauderdale, and Long Island will host games in the United States.
