
BANGI, Malaysia, CMC –Emma McLeod scored a half-century, and her opening partner Kate Irwin added 46 as New Zealand Under-19 Women strolled to a comfortable 79-run win over West Indies Under-19 Women in their warmup match at the UKM-YSD Cricket Oval here Wednesday.
McLeod struck 50 from 42 balls, while Irwin hit 46 from 41 balls, and they were the mainstay of New Zealand’s 151 for two from their 20 overs after winning the toss and electing to bat.
Neither batsman was dismissed, as they both retired out: McLeod when the score was 89 and Irwin with the score of 115.
Eve Wolland (22 not out) and Anika Todd (20 not out) batted through the remainder of the innings with slight alarm.
The West Indies run chase was derailed within the first 10 overs as they slumped to 31 for five before being dismissed for 72.
Only three West Indians got into double figures, with Brianna Harricharan top scoring with 16, Kenika Cassar hitting an unbeaten 13, and Asabi Callender scoring 10.
Todd was the best New Zealand bower, with two wickets and three runs.
