MELBOURNE, Australia, CMC – Wily West Indies left-arm spinner Akeal Hosein has returned to Melbourne Renegades for the last two games of their troubled Big Bash League season.

The 30-year-old Trinidadian, who has featured in 44 Twenty20 Internationals, will replace 22-year-old mystery off-spinner Mujeeb Ur Rahman, whose campaign has been cut short due to a battle with the Afghan board.

Last season, Hosein produced a significant effort for the Renegades, snatching 13 wickets in nine appearances with an economy rate of 6.46 as the franchise reached the knockout phase.

“Akeal made a real impact with our team last year … he bowled economically, including in the power-plays, and was a wicket-taker for us too,” said Renegades general manager James Rosengarten.

Hosein joins a side that has struggled this season, notching a single win in seven outings to lie one from the bottom of the eight-team league.

While they have yet to be eliminated from knockout contention, Renegades would need to win their remaining three games and have other results fall their way to advance.

Hosein will begin his campaign against Stars in the Melbourne derby on January 13 before turning his attention to Sydney Thunder four days later.

He was part of the West Indies squad, which beat England 3-2 in last month’s five-match T20 International series in the Caribbean, picking up six wickets.
