GQEBERHA, South Africa, CMC – Quinton de Kock and Adam Milne overshadowed efforts by West Indians Shai Hope and Sherfane Rutherford as the Sunrisers Eastern Cape sent the Pretoria Capitals crashing to a second straight loss in the SA20 here on Monday.
Player-of-the-Match de Kock smashed 77 off 47 balls with six sixes and five fours, and Matthew Breetzke hit 52 off 33 deliveries to propel Sunrisers to a formidable 188 for six in their 20 overs after electing to bat first at St George’s Park.
The pair shared a partnership of 116 runs for the second wicket, which put the Sunrisers in a strong position of 134 for one in the 14th over.
Tymal Mills was the Capitals’ best bowler with 2-31 from his four overs.
Batting at number three, Hope hit the top score of 36 from 19 balls, inclusive of five fours and one six, while Rutherford chipped in with 25 off 19 balls, but the Capitals were undone by fast bowler Adam Milne to be bowled out for 140 in 18 overs.
Milne claimed 4-25 from his four overs, including the wickets of Hope and Rutherford, to see the Capitals collapse from 77 for two to 116 for six.
The defeat left the Capitals in fifth place in the six-team competition, while Sunrisers jumped to the top of the table with their second consecutive win in as many matches.
