Durham Cricket has signed DURHAM, England, CMC-West Indies fast bowler Chemar Holder. The Barbadian is expected to bolster Durham’s squad for the final three Vitality Blast County Championship matches.
Holder is set to debut ahead of Monday’s crucial clash against Lancashire at the Riverside, stepping in as a replacement for Neil Wagner, whose season was cut short due to a shoulder injury.
Holder, a towering right-arm quick, made his Test debut for the West Indies in December 2020 during their tour of New Zealand, where he claimed two wickets. He earned his first ODI cap in Dhaka a month later, playing in the Bangladesh ODI series.
The right-arm speedster had domestic success for Barbados in the 2019/20 season. He took 36 wickets in eight matches, including an impressive 11/92 against Jamaica, which propelled him into the international spotlight.
With 89 wickets in 27 first-class matches and five five-wicket hauls, Holder brings experience and firepower. He also has prior County Championship experience, having played for Warwickshire in 2021.
Marcus North, Durham’s Director of Cricket, expressed his enthusiasm for the signing.
“We are delighted to have Chemar join us for the season’s final stretch. He is an exciting talent and brings a different dimension to our bowling attack.
“With several injuries and international commitments, it was essential to reinforce our seam options, and Chemar’s quality makes him a great fit.”
Holder emphasized that he is eager to make his mark at Durham.
“I’m excited to be a part of Durham and to have another opportunity to play county cricket. I always give my best on the field and look forward to contributing to these crucial upcoming games. If selected, I can’t wait to give my all for Durham.”
