DUBAI, United Arab Emirates, CMC – West Indies’ duo of Deandra Dottin and Afy Fletcher were rewarded for their outstanding performances in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup when they were named in the Team of the Tournament.
The West Indies were eliminated from the tournament at the semifinal stage by eventual winners New Zealand, who lifted their first World Cup title by defeating South Africa on Sunday.
The 33-year-old Dottin, who came out of retirement three months before the T20 World Cup, showed her brute force by hitting a tournament-high nine sixes.
She ended with 120 runs from five innings at an average of 40 and an impressive strike rate of 162.16.
Dottin also took five wickets, including 4-22 against New Zealand, at an average of 7.60 and an economy rate of 5.42.
Fletcher, meanwhile, ended the World Cup with ten wickets from her five matches at an average of 11.50 and an economy rate of 6.38.
The 37-year-old leg-spinner took two crucial three-wicket hauls against Scotland and England.
Despite losing in the final, South African skipper Laura Wolvaardt was named captain of the Team of the Tournament, including her opening partner Tazmin Brits and spinner Nonkululeko Mlaba.
New Zealand also boasts three players: Amelia Kerr, Rosemary Mair, and Eden Carson.
