David Wiese leads Saint Lucia Kings
The Saint Lucia Kings have named veteran all-rounder David Wiese as their new captain for the upcoming Republic Bank Caribbean Premier League (CPL)

GROS ISLET, St. Lucia, CMC – The Saint Lucia Kings have named veteran all-rounder David Wiese as their new captain for the upcoming Republic Bank Caribbean Premier League (CPL), as they prepare to defend their title this season.

The announcement comes after former skipper Faf du Plessis stepped down from leadership duties, prioritising family commitments.

Wiese, 40, brings a wealth of experience to the role, having represented both South Africa and Namibia at the international level.

Though not a regular captain in franchise cricket, he has previously led Namibia in T20 Internationals, playing a key role in their rise among associate nations.

His leadership, though limited, has been praised for its impact in high-pressure situations.

A fan favorite in Saint Lucia, Wiese has been a crucial part of the Kings’ setup for three of the last four seasons. Known for his ability to break partnerships with the ball and deliver explosive cameos with the bat, the all-rounder has been a consistent match-winner.

His knack for performing in clutch moments makes him an ideal choice to lead the Boys in Blue this season.

Daren Sammy, the Kings’ head coach and former captain, expressed complete confidence in Wiese’s appointment.

“He’s part of the family, a player who’s been with us for years and delivered outstanding performances. We’re excited to kick off our campaign, especially our first home game on August 23 at the Daren Sammy Cricket Ground.

Sammy also called on the loyal Saint Lucia Kings supporters to rally behind the team. “Our fans are the best in the CPL. We know you’ll turn out in full force, paint the stadium blue, and give our new captain and the entire squad your unwavering support.”
