ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates, CMC – West Indies batsmen Johnson Charles and Rovman Powell featured in key partnerships to earn Delhi Bulls a nine-wicket victory over Deccan Gladiators in the Abu Dhabi T10 here Wednesday.
Chasing 121 at the Zayed Cricket Stadium, Bulls overhauled their target with nine balls to spare, with Charles blasting a 13-ball 36 and Powell a 12-ball unbeaten 31.
Both batted around South African Quinton de Kock, who struck a Man-of-the-Match 26-ball unbeaten 50 with three fours and four sixes.
Firstly, Charles counted five fours and a brace of sixes in a 73-run opening stand with de Kock before Powell arrived to add a further 49 for the second wicket while punching five fours and a six.
Earlier, Gladiators skipper Nicholas Pooran failed with 18, but Andre Fletcher struck 34 from 20 balls to get the innings up to 120 for two off their allotted ten overs.
Tom Kohler-Cadmore top-scored with 42 from 21, posting 64 for the first wicket with Fletcher, who then added a further 35 for the second with his former West Indies captain Pooran.
In the day’s second game, Kyle Mayers and Obed McCoy had little impact as Chennai Braves edged Team Abu Dhabi by four runs.
Opener Jason Roy top-scored with an unbeaten 84 off 39 deliveries to get Braves up to 115 for four, Mayers going wicket-less from a single over which cost ten runs.
In reply, McCoy also went wicket-less from two expensive overs while Mayers scored 18, as Team Abu Dhabi came up short.
In the day’s finale, Kieron Pollard’s New York Strikers, featuring Odean Smith and Akeal Hosein, beat Bangla Tigers with former West Indies T20 Carlos Brathwaite and Dominic Drakes by eight wickets after comfortably chasing down 102 with 14 balls to spare.
