PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad, CMC – Describing it as one of the “worst decisions ever,” former West Indies captain Dwayne Bravo has chastised Cricket West Indies (CWI) for its decision to sack T20 captain Rovman Powell.

In a post on Instagram on Tuesday, a day after CWI announced that Powell would be replaced as West Indies T20 captain by Shai Hope, Bravo condemned the move and referred to it as an “injustice.”

The post was accompanied by a stat showing that Powell had won 19 of 37 matches as captain and lost 17, while one match was a no-decision.

Bravo, who helped the West Indies capture the 2012 and 2016 World Twenty20 titles, maintained that CWI had mistreated Powell despite his role in assisting the T20 team rise from ninth to third in the ICC’s rankings.

“@Windiescricket, once again, you guys prove to the people of the Caribbean and the cricket world that the injustices towards players continue!

“As a former player and a fan of WI cricket, this is easily one of the worst decisions ever,” Bravo said in his statement.

“Rovman Powell took over the captaincy when our T20 team was in ninth spot and was able to move up to third sport in the rankings. How do you guys repay him?

“The bad treatment towards players, when would it stop? This is so sad on all levels. Make it make sense,” he added.
