GEORGE TOWN, Cayman Islands, CMC – The Cayman Islands Customs and Border Control Service says that earlier this week, eight Cuban migrants arrived by boat in Cayman Brac.

The boat, carrying three female and five male migrants, arrived at the northeast coast of the island.

The Border Protection agency added that the migrants had been “secured” and were being processed “in line with Cayman Islands law and international obligations”.

This is the latest arrival of migrants to Cayman as local authorities monitor the developing economic situation in Cuba, which has raised concerns about an influx of Cubans to the Cayman Islands.

As of March 3, thirty Cuban migrants remain in Cayman, including the eight new arrivals.

So far this year, the Cayman Islands says 13 Cubans have been repatriated.
