BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, CMC – St. Kitts and Nevis has become the first Caribbean country to join the 100×100 Campaign, a global initiative encouraging 100 islands to commit to 100% # RenewableEnergy.
“This commitment responds to the need for cleaner, more secure and more affordable energy systems across small island states,” the Barbados-based European Union to Barbados, the Eastern Caribbean States, the OECS, CARICOM & CARICOM said in a statement.
It said that with European Union support, the St. Kitts and Nevis government and Greening the Islands Foundation are now working together to develop the country’s national energy transition roadmap.
The groundwork was laid during an energy study tour organised by the European Union and GIZ, which opened the door for deeper cooperation.
The initiative is part of the EU’s #GlobalGateway investment agenda for the Caribbean, creating conditions to attract more European investment in areas such as grid modernisation, interconnection, and geothermal development.
It is funded through EUROCLIMA and implemented with UNDP Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean.
