BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, CMC -The formulation and implementation of measures to effectively enhance collaboration and coordination to address the challenges posed by transnational crime will be among agenda items when Caribbean Community (CARICOM) security and law enforcement ministers meet here later this week.

The two-day 28th meeting of the Council of Ministers of National Security and Law Enforcement begins here on Thursday. Prime Minister Dr. Terrance Drew, who also serves as the Minister of National Security, Citizenship, and Immigration, will chair it.

A government statement said that Prime Minister Drew has made tackling crime on a regional level a top priority and that this meeting is a crucial step towards achieving that objective.

“As part of CARICOM’s commitment to ensuring the safety and security of its member states, the council will gather to discuss and develop comprehensive strategies to combat transnational crime, which continues to pose a significant threat to the region,” said.

It said that the discussions during the two-day meeting will focus on improving intelligence sharing, strengthening border security, and advancing legislative frameworks to ensure a unified and robust response to criminal activities that transcend national boundaries.

“Our collective security depends on our ability to collaborate and share resources, information, and best practices. This meeting is a testament to our commitment to protecting our citizens and ensuring a safe and secure Caribbean,” Prime Minister Drew added,
