HAMILTON, Bermuda, CMC – Police say they are searching for the suspects of a double murder on one of the island’s busiest streets, who they have described as two males on a dark-coloured motorcycle with a covered licence plate.
In a statement, the Bermuda Police Service (BPS) also appealed for calm, adding that one of the victims died at the scene and the other at the King Edward VII Memorial Hospital. They said a third person, a male, remains in the hospital with a gunshot wound to his lower extremities. The authorities have not disclosed the names or ages of those killed and injured.
“The suspects are described as two males on a dark-coloured motorcycle with a covered licence plate. The rider wore a black helmet with a balaclava, a long-sleeved blue top, grey trousers, and tan coloured boots. The pillion passenger, who is believed to be the shooter, wore a black full-face helmet with a multi-coloured top,” according to the police statement.
It said that “an investigation into this brazen attack is ongoing” and appealed to eyewitnesses to come forward.
“The Bermuda Police Service is aware of a video as well as an image of one of the victims at the scene, circulating on social media. If you receive such material, do not share it; instead, please delete it from your devices,” the statement added.
Acting Detective Superintendent Jason Smith said the police are asking for “calm in our community, and as the Bermuda Police Service conducts this investigation, we ask for your support.”
The latest incident came as police continue their investigations into a weekend shooting at the Southampton Rangers Sports Club that left a 19-year-old man nursing gunshot wounds.
Smith said a lone gunman had “indiscriminately shot at” a group of men gathered near the club’s entrance, and the police said the suspect in that case wore a black and grey jacket, black trousers, and white sneakers, as well as a black helmet with a dark visor.
