HAMILTON, Bermuda, CMC – Grenada Prime Minister Dickon Mitchell will deliver the feature address at a Black Tie Gala event organized by the ruling Progressive Labour Party (PLP) later this month, the PLP announced in a statement.

It said that Mitchell, the current chairman of the 15-member regional integration movement CARICOM, will address the November 16 event, sharing insights and encouragement with residents and the party as it builds “a fairer Bermuda for Bermudians.”

“Prime Minister Mitchell is a reform-minded, next-generation next-generation leader working to modernize Grenada. He is a dynamic, young, and socially conscious leader committed to fairness and justice,” the PLP said in its statement.

It noted that “in his historic 2022 election, he inspired the nation’s youth, taking his party to government on a message of hope”.

The PLP said that the event will bring together PLP members, supporters, and distinguished guests for a night of “elegance and inspiration,” with tickets ranging from US$250 to US$250.

The Bermuda government has publicly said it is committed to becoming a full member of CARICOM after the British Overseas Territory became an associate member in July 2003.

“Being a full member of CARICOM allows Bermuda to have a voice and vote on matters of policy addressed by CARICOM that impact the whole region, particularly the issue around correspondent banking and de-risking, said Home Affairs Minister Walter Roban in November last year, adding that Bermuda would not be part of the free movement of Caribbean citizens under the CARICCOM Single Market and Economy (CSME).

“Given Bermuda’s small size, I can already confirm that we would not accept the Protocol on the Free Movement of Persons as a condition of membership,” he said then. a
