BELMOPAN, Belize, CMC –President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez will become the first Cuban leader to visit Belize when he arrives in the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) country on February 12 on an official visit, according to an official statement issued here.

It said that the Cuban leader would hold bilateral talks with Prime Minister John Briceño and sign two agreements without elaborating.

President Díaz-Canel will also address a sitting of the National Assembly, according to the statement that did not indicate how long the Cuban leader will be in the CARICOM country.

“The visit will mark the first by a Cuban President to Belize,” it noted.

President Diaz Canel was elected in 2018 and is the first person to hold the Cuban presidency; and the leader of the nation’s Communist Party, a post that he was appointed to in 2021 following the resignation of Raul Castro, ending the era of formal leadership by the Castros, which began with Cuba’s 1959 revolution.
