Belize government warns the public about individuals seeking or distributing expired medications
Belizean authorities caution the public about individuals attempting to obtain or use expired medications.

BELMOPAN, Belize, CMC -Belizean says it has become aware of individuals requesting donations of expired veterinary medications from international donors, and of unregistered online businesses selling unregistered, unpermitted veterinary products and animal feed.

The Belize Agricultural Health Authority (BAHA) said that it wanted to inform the public that all veterinary drugs, veterinary pesticides, veterinary biologics (vaccines), hygiene & care products, and animal feed are regulated by legislation.

It said that all the products require registration with the Veterinary Drugs Control Unit and valid Import Permits.

“The importation, distribution, and sale of expired, unregistered, unpermitted veterinary drugs, veterinary pesticides, biologics, hygiene & care products, and animal feed are not allowed,” the BAHA said, warning that the maximum fine prescribed “will be imposed for violations of this regulation.”

It said that safeguarding Belize’s agricultural health “is our priority, and compliance with importation regulations is essential for maintaining agricultural health”.
