Guyana will host Grenada in a three-match basketball series from March 6-8 at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall as part of preparations for the FIBA Men's Caribbean Championship

GEORGETOWN, Guyana, CMC – Local basketball fans are in for a treat this March as the Guyana national senior men’s team is set to host Grenada in a three-match international series.

The games are scheduled to tip off from March 6 to 8 at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.

The upcoming home series is a crucial component of the Guyana Basketball Federation’s (GBF) “packed calendar” for 2026, with a sharp focus on preparing the national squad for this year’s FIBA Men’s Caribbean Championship.

It follows the team’s recent outing at the Nations Cup in Suriname, where Guyana finished as runners-up to the host nation, ahead of French Guiana.

According to GBF President Michael Singh, consistent exposure at the regional level is vital for the team’s development.

He stated that the three-match series against the Grenadians will provide the squad with the high-level competition needed to build cohesion and sharpen their execution.

“Early preparation is essential if we are to achieve meaningful results on the Caribbean stage,” Singh noted.

The GBF is taking a holistic approach to its programming. Singh emphasised the Federation’s commitment to balancing the domestic and international calendars while ensuring equal attention is given to both the men’s and women’s programmes.

Beyond player development, Singh highlighted the importance of bringing international opponents to local shores. He pointed out that such events are key to stimulating local interest in the sport, giving Guyanese fans the chance to witness high-level regional competition firsthand.

Preparations for the Grenada tour are already in motion. The GBF is expected to announce additional plans in the coming weeks for both the men’s and women’s national teams as part of its long-term strategic agenda.
