BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, CMC – Police say they are investigating the deaths of two people, whose bodies were found in a car on Sunday in St. Joseph, along the east coast.
Public Affairs and Communications Officer, Inspector Ryan Brathwaite, said law enforcement officers received a report on Sunday afternoon indicating that a vehicle was parked along a road with two men inside who had sustained multiple gunshot wounds.
Their identities have not yet been released, and Brathwaite has made a direct appeal to Barbadians to work with law enforcement agencies to address crime in the country.
“This is our country, our sweet Barbados. Crime affects all Barbadians. It affects families; it affects our country financially. Visitors to the island are scared away, and people living within the country remain fearful as a result of this crime wave.
“We are all family. We are connected in one way or another. There must be a better way to resolve our conflicts. Let us have that conversation,” he said, urging parents to “speak to your children, speak to your brothers, speak to your sisters, aunts, speak to your cousins.
“This is not the way that we live as a people. Crime cannot help us in Barbados. We must do better as a people to resolve our situations.”
As of mid-March 2026, Barbados has experienced a surge in gun violence, including two separate shooting incidents resulting in at least two deaths on March 9.
On January 7, residents of the southeastern coast of St. Philip reported a drive-by shooting where occupants of a car fired approximately 10 shots at people socializing.
