Barbados’ new ambassador to Cuba presents credentials.
BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, CMC – Barbados’ new Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Republic of Cuba, Sandra Gittens, has presented her credentials to Cuba’s Deputy Foreign Minister, Josefina Vidal, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade has said.
Mrs. Gittens is Barbados’ fourth resident Ambassador to Cuba, succeeding Dr. Sharon Marshall, who completed her tour of duty in February 2026.
The ministry said the presentation is the first step in the two-part accreditation process and that the career diplomat has served as Head of the CARICOM/Caribbean Affairs division at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade and as Chargé d’Affaires at Barbados’ missions in Panama and Venezuela.
“During the meeting, she shared that she was honored to undertake this assignment and conveyed Barbados’ intention to expand its longstanding partnership with Cuba, building upon gains in education, health, sports, culture and the environment,” the ministry said.
Vidal said Cuba is satisfied with the positive relations it shares with Barbados and that her Ministry would continue to collaborate with Barbados’ representatives to strengthen these relations.
Vidal also expressed her country’s gratitude for Barbados’ principled stance on the economic embargo against Cuba and Barbados’ consistent material support through shipments of powdered milk that benefit Cuba’s children and other vulnerable groups.
