BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, CMC – The leader of the Barbados Labour Party (BLP), Mia Amor Mottley, was on Thursday sworn in for a third consecutive term after leading the BLP to an unprecedented 30-0 clean sweep in the general election held on Wednesday.
State media and election officials confirmed that the BLP won all 30 seats in the House of Assembly, denying any opposition party representation and underscoring Mottley’s dominant position in Barbadian politics.
In her victory remarks, Mottley emphasized her government’s focus on tackling poverty, strengthening democratic institutions, and improving public services.
She also declared a national public holiday for Friday and announced plans for a national thanksgiving celebration.
Her new Cabinet is expected to be sworn in early next week, and Parliament is slated to reconvene shortly thereafter.
