A 45-year-old Bahamian boat captain died after his 20-foot vessel ran aground on a rocky shoreline near Rolle Cay, Exuma, in the early hours of March 19, 2026. Two American passengers sustained minor injuries

NASSAU, Bahamas, CMC- The captain of a 20-foot vessel has died, and two other people were injured after the vessel ran aground on a rocky shoreline near Rolle Cay, a 470-acre private island located in the Exuma Cays, police have confirmed.

They said that the captain is a Bahamian national, while the other two are American citizens.

The police said that the accident occurred on Thursday night. They have not released the identities of any of the people on board the vessel. Media reports said that during the incident, the captain was reportedly thrown from the boat and later found unresponsive in the water.

Police officers arrived at the scene and took the injured captain, who had visible trauma, to the George Town Dock, where a local doctor initially assessed him before being moved to the Exuma Healthcare Facility for further treatment.

Despite medical efforts, he was declared dead. The two American passengers were also examined by a doctor and were found to have sustained minor injuries that were not life-threatening.

Police said that the victim will be sent to New Providence for formal identification and an autopsy.

Meanwhile, the Aircraft Accident Investigation Authority (AAIA) says it is coordinating with the Civil Aviation Authority of the Bahamas and the Airport Authority into an incident on Thursday, in which a Pineapple Air plane with 19 people on board made a belly landing at Governor’s Harbour Airport, even as smoke rose from the metal propellers, which scraped along the runway.

The AAIA said the Beech 1900 aircraft experienced landing gear problems and became disabled on the runway after touchdown. There were no reported injuries, but the incident forced a temporary shutdown of the airport, delaying other flights.
