NASSAU, Bahamas, CMC—The Bahamas government has welcomed the appointment of Quinton C. Lightbourne, the chairman of The Bahamas Development Bank (BDB), as the alternative executive director for the Caribbean at the US-based InterAmerican Development Bank (IDB).
A statement issued by the Office of the Prime Minister said that in this role, Lightbourne will work closely with Caribbean stakeholders, which include The Bahamas, Barbados, Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago, Guyana, St. Lucia, and Suriname.
In a strong show of confidence in Lightbourne’s abilities, the government has endorsed him to sit on the IDB’s Board of Directors, the IDB’s executive authority. In the absence of the Executive Director, he will be responsible for conducting bank operations, a testament to his proven track record of success at the BDB.
The statement proudly announces that Lightbourne, the youngest Bahamian ever to hold this prestigious position, has also served as the BDB chairman, a testament to his exceptional leadership and dedication.
It is said that among his notable accomplishments was helping the BDB secure US$30 million from the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank), which is the largest capitalization in BDB’s history.
“This administration will continue to elevate promising young Bahamian leaders in roles where they can flourish while bringing new energy and fresh ideas to our nation-building agenda,” the statement added.
