Outerbridge and Douglas celebrating with gold medals after sprint wins
Miles Outerbridge won the Under-20 boys’ 100 metres at the CARIFTA Games

ST GEORGE’S, Grenada, CMC – Miles Outerbridge and Shaniya Douglas can boast of being the Caribbean’s fastest sprinters after winning the marquee Under-20 boys’ and girls’ 100m titles, respectively, on the opening day of the 2026 CARIFTA Games here on Saturday.

Representing The Bahamas, Outerbridge ran 10.21 seconds to set a new national record on his way to copping gold.

Nyron Wade of Jamaica placed second in 10.27 seconds, while Trinidad and Tobago’s Trevaughn Stewart took home bronze in a time of 10.31 seconds.

Hometown boy Ian George just missed out on a medal, crossing the finish line in 10.39 seconds to finish fourth in a race that had some drama, with Jamaica’s Sanjay Seymore being disqualified for a false start.

Earlier, the 19-year-old Douglas expectedly cruised to victory in the women’s equivalent despite a slow start.

Douglas, who has run under 10 seconds for the year, was timed at 11.13 seconds to finish well ahead of Trinidad and Tobago’s Alexxe Henry in 11.39 seconds, with fellow Jamaican Natrece East placing third in 11.41 seconds.

In a thrilling final in the Under-17 girls’ 100m, Tyra Fenton of Antigua and Barbuda edged Jazae Johnson of The Bahamas for the gold medal by the thinnest of margins, with both athletes being timed at 11.30 seconds.

Brion Ward, also of The Bahamas, captured the bronze medal in 11.63 seconds.

However, there was no catching Kai Kelly of Jamaica in the Under-17 boys’ 100m, with the diminutive sprinter crossing the finish line in 10.37 seconds, comfortably ahead of the Trinidad and Tobago pair of Jayden Goodridge (10.48) and Jaquan Douglas (10.67).
