
PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad, CMC – Trinidad and Tobago’s Minister of Sport and Youth Affairs, Phillip Watts, has praised Keshorn Walcott for his gold medal-winning performance at the 2025 World Athletic Championships on Thursday.
The 2012 Olympic champion threw the javelin 88.16 metres to cop his second major international title, finishing ahead of Grenada’s two-time world champion Anderson Peters, who placed second, while Curtis Thompson of the USA took home the bronze medal.
In a statement issued moments after Walcott’s victory, Watts congratulated the 32-year-old for his continued dedication to putting T&T on the world stage.
“On behalf of the Government of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago and the Ministry of Sport and Youth Affairs, I am absolutely thrilled to congratulate Keshorn Walcott on this phenomenal achievement.
“His season-best throw of 88.16 meters in the fourth round demonstrates the exceptional talent and dedication that continues to place Trinidad and Tobago on the world stage in athletics,” Walcott said.
“Keshorn’s success is a testament to his unwavering dedication, the support of his coaching team, and the strength of our national athletics programme.
“This gold medal victory will undoubtedly inspire the next generation of young athletes across Trinidad and Tobago to pursue excellence in sport,” he added.
The Minister gave the assurance that the Ministry remains committed to supporting the country’s elite athletes as they compete at the highest levels of international competition.
Walcott said he was looking forward to celebrating Walcott’s homecoming with the nation.
