KINGSTON, Jamaica, CMC – Olympic bronze medallist Ronald Levy said he was “stunned” to learn that he had returned an adverse analytical finding from an out-of-season drug test conducted early last month.

Media reports surfaced on Friday on the island that an unnamed sprint hurdler faced the possibility of suspension after testing positive for a banned substance, and the 31-year-old sprint hurdler, the 2018 Commonwealth Games gold medallist, revealed in a social media post that he was the athlete.

“Early last month, I was tested out of season,” Levy stated in a social media post on Instagram. “I expected to be negative on that test like I have been on every test I have ever taken.

“I was surprised to receive a letter on Tuesday (November 2, 2023) by the Jamaica Anti-Doping Commission of an adverse analytical finding. I have decided to take the option to have my B-sample tested, of which I await the results.”

It has also been reported that the substance found in his A-sample accelerates the reduction of triglycerides, the most common form of fat in the body.

“I am stunned at the turn of events because I have always conducted myself with the highest level of integrity in the sport, which I love dearly and would never seek to gain an unfair advantage,” Levy added.

“I intend to defend my integrity during this process because I am certain I did not knowingly breach the rules. Out of respect for the process, I will not comment further until the process is concluded.”

Levy previously represented Jamaica at the World Indoor Championships in March last year in Serbia, but injury has severely limited his appearances since then.
