KINGSTON, Jamaica, CMC – Garth Gayle, President of the Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association (JAAA), has revealed that the association plans to write to World Athletics as it seeks help in preventing cash-rich countries from poaching athletes from smaller nations.
The action follows Türkiye’s bold move to target Jamaican athletes Roje Stona, Wayne Pinnock, Rajindra Campbell, and Jaydon Hibbert.

The quartet is expected to switch allegiance to the Middle Eastern country after being offered lucrative contracts, which include a US$500,000 signing bonus, monthly stipends, and six-figure incentives for podium finishes at major championships.
Speaking at the launch of the National Senior Championships on Monday, Gayle said he was yet to have any communications with the athletes involved or representatives from Turkey.
However, while the JA has stated that it will not try to block the athlete’s move, Gayle has indicated that he intends to write to the world governing body to determine the best way to address the matter.
“We will be putting it in black and white and sending it to World Athletics to be held at the Congress, and I will be taking a written copy to the Congress in Tokyo, Japan.
“Jamaica’s voice will be heard, and I’m sure I will be having quite several colleagues following with me on this motion,” Gayle said.
