TORUN, Poland, CMC – Saint Lucia’s sprint queen, Julien Alfred, added yet another medal to her impressive resume when she captured a bronze medal in the 60 metres at the World Athletics Indoor Championships here on Saturday.

Alfred fell short in her bid to dip under seven seconds and set a new world record in the event, crossing the finish line in a time of 7.03 seconds.

The event was won by Italy’s Zaynab Dosso, who shocked the field with a time of 7.00 seconds, with Jacious Spears of the USA second, also in 7.03 seconds.

Jamaica’s duo of Brianna Lyston and Jonielle Smith finished just outside the medals in fourth and fifth, respectively, with the former running a season’s best time of 7.05 seconds, while Smith clocked 7.06.

In men’s action, Jamaica’s Demario Prince came agonisingly close to medaling in the 60-metre hurdles.

Prince clocked the same time as bronze medalist Trey Cunningham of the USA (7.43 seconds), but was adjudged to have finished fourth.

The race was won by Jakub Szymanski in 7.40 seconds, with Spain’s Enrique Llopis grabbing silver in a national record time of 7.42 seconds.
