Guyana to host 2026 Archery Championships after successful bid
Guyana will host the 2026 Caribbean Development Archery Championships.

GEORGETOWN, Guyana, CMC – In a landmark achievement, Guyana has been awarded the hosting rights for the 2026 Caribbean Development Archery Championships.

Archery Guyana, the country’s national federation, made the historic announcement following a successful bid against Jamaica.

Sergio Font, secretary general of World Archery Americas, confirmed the decision after a vote among eligible English-speaking Caribbean federations.

The victory is a testament to Archery Guyana’s growing capabilities, highlighted by a recent readiness exercise at the Leonora Track and Field Facility during its 2025 Outdoor National Championships.

“We are humbled and honoured by this opportunity,” the federation’s president, Vidushi Persaud-McKinnon, said.

“This moment belongs to all of Guyana, and we now look forward to working with stakeholders to ensure an unforgettable and world-class event.”

To mark the occasion, Archery Guyana also revealed the official mascot for the championships: Kai the Keen-eyed Kiskadee.

Kai is a vibrant embodiment of Guyanese identity, while the mascot is a kiskadee, a bird common across the country, known for its bold and energetic nature.
