ST. JOHN’S, Antigua, CMC – The Antigua and Barbuda government says representatives from several countries, including Afghanistan, North Korea, and Taiwan, will need a visa to enter the country to attend the 55thregular session of the Organization of American States (OAS) later this month.

A statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that it is informing all travelers and airlines of the government’s “updated policy on entry requirements” regarding the OAS meeting scheduled for June 25-27.

It said that all diplomatic and official passport holders of all countries except Afghanistan, Iran, Iraq, Libya, Sudan, Yemen, Somalia, North Korea, and Taiwan “are permitted visa-free entry” into the country for official business.

“It is urging passport holders from the affected countries to apply for the proper visa, also noting that “duly accredited participants from OAS Member and Observer States are permitted visa-free entry into Antigua and Barbuda during the period June 20-30.

“This is to facilitate their attendance at the 55th OAS General Assembly. Proof of accreditation (OAS Registration Confirmation letter) must also be presented to airline flight representatives before boarding to be eligible for this facility,” the ministry said.

It stated that the advisory is primarily intended for guidance on the OAS General Assembly.

This will be the first time the region has hosted the OAS General Assembly since the Dominican Republic hosted it in 2016 and the first time an English-speaking Caribbean country has hosted it since Barbados in 2002.
