LONDON, CMC – Reggae Boy Jonson Clarke-Harris will not be replaced if he leaves League One Peterborough as expected during the January transfer window.
The 29-year-old saw a deadline day move to Bristol Rovers collapse due to administrative hiccups, but the Championship club are expected to renew their bid during the winter.
“If we lose players – and Ronnie and Jonno (Clarke-Harris) are the obvious ones – we would be better off losing them early in January,” said manager Darren Ferguson.
“Jonno won’t be replaced as we signed players when we thought he was going in the summer, but we would have to look at the situation if Ronnie left.
“I am already discussing things with the chairman, and they will continue, but I’m very relaxed.”
Since the failed transfer in September, Clarke-Harris has re-focused and bagged seven goals – the latest coming in a 4-4 draw with Salford City in the FA Cup earlier this month.
However, last season’s Golden Boot winner has not started for the club – nicknamed “the Posh” – in over a month, as the club has begun preparation for life without him on their roster.
He was transfer-listed after Peterborough failed to gain promotion to the Championship, but the only bid for the player’s prolific scoring services came on deadline day.
Clarke-Harris made his only appearance for Jamaica last year against Catalonia.
